Position Summary

The PE/Health Teacher teaches course curriculum that motivates the student to learn integrating a course of study within the parameters of the school philosophy, Illinois State Board of Education, the school’s framework and learning goals.

ASPIRA PE/Health TEACHER Essential Functions:

  • Teach, explain and demonstrate sports activities using various teaching methods, principles, techniques and methods of regulating movement of body, hands or feet to achieve proficiency in activity
  • Prepare lesson and unit plans, course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines and the school’s educational philosophy
  • Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program
  • Explain and demonstrate use of equipment and apparatus
  • Observe students during practice to detect and correct mistakes
  • Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations
  • Evaluate physical condition and advise students to maintain maximum physical fitness
  • Prescribe exercises to strengthen muscles and recommend special diets to build up health
  • Render first aid to injured players and call physician as appropriate
  • Make safety checks on equipment and filed areas to ensure the overall safety of students
  • Organize and conduct competition and tournaments
  • Prepare and administer tests to evaluate student progress, corrects tests, records results and issues reports to inform parents of progress
  • Contribute to the professional learning community to impact student achievement and enhance the learning environment
  • Maintain up-to-date certifications in First Aid, CPR and any other requirement
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress
  • Teach rules of conduct and maintain discipline in classroom and on campus
  • Maintain attendance, progress reports and grade records as required
  • Actively participate in faculty and professional meetings, open houses, parent conferences, educational conferences, training workshops and other related activities
  • Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Bargaining Unit Member and is Subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement

  • Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Health Endorsement .
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working in a school setting
  • Hold a teaching certificate
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational skills and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English Preferred
