Position Summary
The PE/Health Teacher teaches course curriculum that motivates the student to learn integrating a course of study within the parameters of the school philosophy, Illinois State Board of Education, the school’s framework and learning goals.
ASPIRA PE/Health TEACHER Essential Functions:
- Teach, explain and demonstrate sports activities using various teaching methods, principles, techniques and methods of regulating movement of body, hands or feet to achieve proficiency in activity
- Prepare lesson and unit plans, course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines and the school’s educational philosophy
- Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program
- Explain and demonstrate use of equipment and apparatus
- Observe students during practice to detect and correct mistakes
- Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations
- Evaluate physical condition and advise students to maintain maximum physical fitness
- Prescribe exercises to strengthen muscles and recommend special diets to build up health
- Render first aid to injured players and call physician as appropriate
- Make safety checks on equipment and filed areas to ensure the overall safety of students
- Organize and conduct competition and tournaments
- Prepare and administer tests to evaluate student progress, corrects tests, records results and issues reports to inform parents of progress
- Contribute to the professional learning community to impact student achievement and enhance the learning environment
- Maintain up-to-date certifications in First Aid, CPR and any other requirement
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress
- Teach rules of conduct and maintain discipline in classroom and on campus
- Maintain attendance, progress reports and grade records as required
- Actively participate in faculty and professional meetings, open houses, parent conferences, educational conferences, training workshops and other related activities
- Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bargaining Unit Member and is Subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Health Endorsement .
- A minimum of two years’ experience working in a school setting
- Hold a teaching certificate
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational skills and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent computer skills
- Bilingual – Spanish/English Preferred
