ASPIRA Charter School Network is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as College Student Representative on the ASPIRA Board of Directors. This a great opportunity for students to meet educational professionals and work with an organization that advances the leadership development of Latino and other marginalized youth through education. This is an unpaid volunteer position.


As a student representative to the board your primary function is to serve as a voice and link for other higher education students and the board of directors by representing the views of students on matters of concern to students; participating in board meetings and other events attended by Board members; encouraging the involvement of students in educational affairs; and being an articulate voice to the public on matters of concern to students.

As the College Student Board Member:

  • You are a voting board member.
  • You co-chair the Students Affairs Committee with the High School Student Representative.
  • You serve as an advisor for student programming at the board level.
  • You represent ASPIRA of IL as the student rep on the National ASPIRA Association Board.
  • You are the face that represents Aspirantes from all walks of life and will assist with the activities of the Aspira Alumni Association.

To be eligible to serve as the College Student Representative on the Board of Directors, a
student must:

  • Have graduated from one of the ASPIRA Charter Schools or participated in an ASPIRA program, and
  • is currently a full-time undergraduate matriculated student in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • demonstrate a true interest in the organization and have leadership potential
  • be a responsible, conscientious student with good organizational and communication skills
  • be able to serve a term defined by two consecutive academic years
  • available to attend all meetings and activities of the board of directors.
  • pass a criminal background check as required by the Chicago Public Schools.
