Position Summary
Founded in 1961, Dr. Antonia Pantoja’s vision for ASPIRA was to create leadership clubs to address young people’s need for positive cultural identity, leadership skills and ensure graduation from college to pursue a career and give back to the community. ASPIRA of Illinois was established in 1968 by a group of educators to address the social and educational challenges of Puerto Rican students in Chicago. This group of educators were inspired by Dr. Antonia Pantoja’s work in New York. Overtime, ASPIRA of Illinois has evolved into 4 charter schools and a youth center in Chicago.
ASPIRA School Psychologist Essential Functions:
- The School Psychologist works to support individual students through various developmental and mental health issues. The Psychologist focuses on assessing and testing students who may need and qualify for additional psychological services to support them.
- School psychologists apply knowledge of learning, behavior, and mental health to support students and teachers in K-12 schools.
- Under the leadership of the School Principal and or Assistant principal, the School Psychologist is a critical member who is delegated the responsibility of psychological assessments of cognitive and academic domains.
- The School Psychologist identifies and assesses the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and needs of scholars, as well as the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment.
- The School Psychologist works to support the success of Aspira students across all facets.
- The School Psychologist participates in the MTSS process and provides interventions to students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning and adjustment.
- Additionally, the School Psychologist assists in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs.
- The School Psychologist monitors the process and completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs and services that maximize scholar success.
- Provide counseling, instruction, and mentoring for those struggling with social, emotional, and behavioral problems.
- Increase achievement by assessing barriers to learning and determining the best instructional strategies to improve learning
- Promote wellness and resilience by reinforcing communication and social skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self-determination, and optimism.
- Work with Students and Their Families to:
- Identify and address learning and behavior problems that interfere with school success
- Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the all ASPIRA staff, community, administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with ASPIRA staff, students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
- Commit to the Network’s mission and vision
- Follow Network’s policies and procedures
- Provide other duties as assigned
- Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Doctoral Psychology degree required.
- Licensed by State of IL required.
- 3-5 years’ experience working with children and adolescents.
- 3-5 years of experience in the educational field.
- School Psychologist certification from an accredited program
- Must have a thorough knowledge of Federal and State Psychologist regulations
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
- Successful experience working in a diverse student environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Platforms
- Travel to other near by facilities and/or locations
